VENTOLIN SIDE EFFECTS

Ventolin (generic name: Albuterol) is used in treating asthma and other conditions with reversible airway obstruction. Asthma is a breathing problem involving widespread narrowing of the bronchial tubes (Airways). Airways can be narrowed due to the accumulation of mucus, spasm of the muscles that surround these airways, or swelling of the lining of the airways. Narrowing of airways leads to shortness of breath, wheezing, cough, and congestion. Ventolin medicine dilates bronchial airways by relaxing the surrounding bronchial muscles. Ventolin can also be helpful in patients with emphysema and chronic bronchitis when their symptoms are partially related to reversible airway obstruction.

Do not use this medication if you have any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat; hives or difficulty breathing. Stop using Ventolin and call your doctor if you have any of these serious side effects: bronchospasm (wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing), especially after starting a new canister of this medicine; chest pain and fast, pounding, or uneven heart beats; tremor, nervousness; or increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure). Continue using Ventolin and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects: headache, dizziness, nervousness; sleep problems (insomnia); cough, hoarseness, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose; dry mouth and throat; muscle pain; or diarrhea. Apart from this other side effects may also occur, in that case consult your physician for more advises. Ventolin is used with caution in patients with coronary heart disease or in patients with arrhythmias (cardiac rhythm disturbances). Use of Ventolin together with other stimulant medications is not suggested because of their combined effects on the heart rate, blood pressure, and the potential for causing chest pain in patients with underlying coronary heart disease. In rare patients, inhaled Ventolin can paradoxically precipitate life-threatening bronchospasm. In some cases worsening of diabetes and lowering of potassium have also been reported.
